5 small fires in the Tahoe National Forest
The Tahoe National Forest has picked up 5 small fires - all lightning caused and all less than an acre. Two fires are located in the Gold Lakes/Bassetts area; 2 fires located northwest of Sierraville near Calpine and near Carmen Valley; and 1 near Sugar Pine Reservoir north of Foresthill. The fires are all staffed with the fire near Carmen Valley controlled and in patrol status. The fire south of Bassetts is contained.
Although the TNF sent 5 engines, 3 handcrews and overhead to the fires in Southern California, the engines remaining on Forest have responded quickly to these local fire starts. A recon ship is currently flying the forest, looking for additional smokes. Relatively moist conditions have slowed the spread of the fires, however north winds are predicted later in the week. Forest Supervisor Steve Eubanks reminds residents that they still need to be fire safe - whether in the National Forest or at home.
