Monday 11/12/07 all County Offices will be closed in observance of Veteran's Day.

Effective November 1, 2007 and pursuant to Sec. G-V 3.18 of the County Ordinances, an assessor's parcel number (APN) is required on all documents conveying title, i.e. grant deed, quitclaim deed etc. If documents are brought in for recording without the APN, staff will assist in finding it. Please call if you are unsure if your document requires an APN.

Pursuant to Assembly Bill 886 the California All-Purpose Notary Acknowledgment verbiage will be changed effective January 1, 2008. All land records and notarized documents being executed after January 1, 2008 must contain the new wording or they will not be accepted for recording.

Land and sea travel to Mexico & Canada will require a passport beginning January 1, 2008. With this new mandate and the holidays fast approaching, the U.S Department of State suggests now is a good time to start your passport process.

The Recorder's Office is open to the public from 8:00 to 5:00. Passport services, marriage licenses and recording of documents are available from 8:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Democracy is hiring! The 2008 Poll Worker application is available at www.mynevadacounty.com/elections or by calling us at 530-265-1298 or 1-888-395-1298.

In the coming weeks all registered Nevada County polling place voters will be receiving an application to request permanent vote by mail status. Submit your application and you’ll enjoy the convenience of voting from home in all future elections in which you are eligible to vote.

All non-partisan, decline to state and unaffiliated voters have the opportunity to request a Democratic or American Independent party ballot for the upcoming Presidential Primary Election if they so choose. A cross over ballot application will be mailed to all vote by mail voters not affiliated with a political party allowing them to make that request before their non partisan ballot is mailed. This cross over ballot option will be available at all Nevada County poll locations for those voters going to the polls on Election Day, February 5, 2008. Requesting a cross over ballot will not permanently affect the voter’s party affiliation.

Nevada County will be HAVA (Help America Vote Act) compliant for the 2008 election cycles! Acceptance testing of Nevada County’s voting equipment will begin November 16 and will continue through November 20. If you’d like to observe this process, please call Nevada County Elections for detailed scheduling at 530-265-1298 or 1-888-395-1298.
