STOCKHOLM, Sept. 1, 2010 - About 2,500 leading experts, practitioners, decision makers and business innovators will meet at the World Water Week in Stockholm, September 5-11, 2010, to discuss the world’s escalating water problems.

The focus this year is set on tackling the water quality challenge, which affects the health of humans and ecosystems. Other related issues gaining momentum include: urbanisation, food and global security, climate change adaptation, and the human rights to water access and sanitation.

The World Water Week in Stockholm and the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. The 2010 Stockholm Water Prize is presented to Dr. Rita R. Colwell of the University of Maryland and John Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA, for her research on waterborne diseases which has helped save millions of lives. Other honours presented this year include the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, the Stockholm Industry Water Award and the Swedish Baltic Sea Water Award.

The World Water Week is a global forum to review progress, build capacities and promote partnerships on international processes on issues related to water and development. More than 20 ministers including the Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson are joined by leading experts in Stockholm to address these issues.

The conference takes place at the Stockholm International Fairs, between the 5th and the 11th of September, 2010. For more information on events, speakers, and registration, visit www.worldwaterweek.org.
