July 13, 2009 - Placer County/South of Interstate 80 - The 8 fires on the American River Ranger District ranged in size from 1/4 acre to 2 acres. Three fires are located southwest of Duncan Peak; 4 fires are north of Mosquito Ridge Road in the Peavine - Big Oak Flat area; and one is located 1.5 miles from the Forest Service seed orchard. Staffing today will include 2 crews, 2 helicopters, 5 engines, and 1 water tender from the Eldorado and Tahoe National Forests. These fires are expected to be called out tonight by 6:00 pm and then they will be in patrol status.
Northern Nevada County - The 1 fire, 5 miles west of Graniteville, on the Yuba River Ranger District was contained yesterday afternoon at 2:30 pm and is approx 1 acre. It is in patrol status today.
Weather expectations - Much warmer weather along with lower humidities will return this week as high pressure builds over the region. A brief period of locally windy northeast surface winds Monday night will bring more drying with many lower elevation locations likely to see minimum day time humidity in the lower teens by Tuesday afternoon.
