CLAIM Indexes and Hosts Comments on Emgold's Idaho-Maryland Mine DEIR

By: Citizens Looking at Impacts of Mining

Grass Valley, CA April 9, 2009 - CLAIM-GV has taken the public comments provided by the City of Grass Valley and we have indexed and posted them online for the public to access them more readily. You can access the DEIR comments at www.claim-gv.org and then click on the DEIR comment button. The comments were provided by the City of Grass Valley in a number of PDF files on CD. CLAIM-GV volunteers then read each of the PDF files and created an index of who wrote the comment and where it appears within the PDF. While we cannot subdivide the PDF files, in most cases we list the page number within the PDF if you want to go directly to the particular comment. Also we were able to take email files and individual comments and create PDF files from all of them. Files are indexed based on the name of the person who submitted the comment.

Comments generally fell into 3 different categories. Comments which were critical of the DEIR and / or critical of the project, comments which were positive about the project, and submissions which were really not targeted at the DEIR at all, such as requests for an extension of the comment period. Discounting the miscellaneous comments, and making our best attempt to account for duplicate comments, there were about 188 unique comments submitted, of which 81% were critical of the DEIR and / or the project.

We have done our best to make sure that all the comments are available on line. However we cannot guarantee that we have been perfect. If you know you submitted a comment and it is not posted online please send us an email (claim@claim-gv.org) and we will attempt to locate your comment. Note that we can only provide comments which were originally provided to us by the City of Grass Valley.

CLAIM-GV would like to thank the volunteers who spent some much time and energy reviewing these comments. We could not have done this without your dedication and support. Please note that a number of these PDF files are very large and we do not recommend that you download the large files if you have a dial up internet connection.

CLAIM-GV (Citizens Looking At Impacts of Mining) is an organization of concerned citizens formed to review the impacts of reopening the Idaho Maryland Mine (IMM), the associated ceramics plant, and ancillary projects within the City of Grass Valley and surrounding Nevada County. CLAIM-GV wholeheartedly supports bringing high technology jobs, alternative fuel R&D, solar cell development and many other 21st century jobs into our area. Now is the time for Grass Valley and Nevada County to come together and aggressively seek to capture as much new green industry as possible given the imminent federal funding being made available for these opportunities. CLAIM-GV is certain that Grass Valley and Nevada County will be better off in both the short term and the long term without the IMMC project.

For more information about CLAIM-GV and about the significant impacts of this proposed project on Grass Valley and Nevada County, please see http://www.claim-gv.org.
