Douglas Hooper Photography Exhibit at Sierra Commons “Night Time is the Right Time” for Local Photographer, Douglas Hooper Published on Mar 20, 2010 - 7:36:21 AM
Nevada City, CA – March 18, 2010 – The mythical incandescence of Burning Man nights. The emptiness of a Joshua tree illuminated in the desert twilight. These are the images that Douglas Hooper captures in his work.
A local photographer, and self-described "painter of light," Douglas will display some of his photographs in his "Night Time is the Right Time" exhibit at Sierra Commons on April 2, from 4 to 7pm.
The event will focus on his recent work with long exposure, night photography, which is filled with surreal dreamscapes and thrilling juxtapositions of color and darkness.
"Long exposures in the dark of night are magical," Douglas says, "because they can produce images which were never available to be seen in real time, as the human eye sees things."
The vibrant blurring of colors, light, and motion that results from these long exposures evokes a world of phantasmagoria. His work gives us, as he describes it, a "sense of reality along with a glimpse of the dream world beyond."
Douglas Hooper is a local, award-winning photographer. He has worked in photo labs, taught photography, judged photography competitions, and even done commercial and wedding photos.
Sierra Commons is a Nevada City business incubator and co-working environment that provides support and infrastructure for local emerging businesses and entrepreneurs.
