July 2, 2009 - Residents and visitors to Placer County are reminded that fireworks of any size and type are illegal in unincorporated areas of the county.
The prohibition applies to rural areas not located within the boundaries of a city or town, as well as unincorporated communities such as Granite Bay, Meadow Vista, Tahoe City and Kings Beach.
Some incorporated cities within Placer County allow Safe and Sane fireworks to be sold and used. Contact city offices to find out whether a particular city permits fireworks.
In unincorporated areas, the only exception to the fireworks ban is when an agency or person receives permission from the county to host a fireworks display executed by a professional pyrotechnics company. Requests must be submitted at least 30 days before a proposed display date.
Information on how to apply for a fireworks display permit is available on the county Web site at http://www.placer.ca.gov/FormsAppsPermits/FireworksInfo.aspx. To get there from the county homepage at www.placer.ca.gov, hit the "Forms" icon in the "Online Services" box and, when a new page appears, hit the "Fireworks Display Application" icon in the "Quick Links" section.
