Mark Twain to Appear at Taylor Creek

By: Rex Norman, US Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Mgt Unit

South Lake Tahoe Calif. July 13, 2009 - On Thursday, July 23, at 7:00 p.m., MacAvoy Layne will once again perform as that Wild Humorist of the Western Slope, Mark Twain. This one-man show portraying Mark Twain's adventures out west will take place at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater, located at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. The program is good old-fashioned family entertainment, with stories for the kids, humor for the adults and words of wisdom to live-by for all. The old man may even take questions from the audience, and if he doesn't have an answer, he'll at least have an opinion. The show is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under.

MacAvoy Layne has been performing his Twain impersonation at Taylor Creek for over twenty years. When asked what keeps him coming back to the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater, Layne says "It's the best darn dressing room Twain has ever had", and "The setting is as Twain would have liked it". The other reason, not often stated, is that if Twain offends anyone (as he is known to do at times) the outdoor setting lends for an easy escape!

The Forest Service and the Tahoe Heritage Foundation make these programs possible. The Tahoe Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organization that works with the Forest Service to conduct interpretive and environmental education programs in the Tahoe Basin.

For more information about the Mark Twain program or any of the other programs offered by the Forest Service at Lake Tahoe, please call the Taylor Creek Visitor Center at (530) 543-2674.
