Misdemeanor Warrant Sweep Nets Ten Arrests

By: United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner, Eastern District of California

SACRAMENTO, Calif. Mar. 18, 2010 – United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced that the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Forest Service, with the coordination of the U.S. Attorney's Office, arrested a series of defendants yesterday as part of a coordinated effort to apprehend misdemeanor violators who had failed to appear in federal court as required.

Seven deputies with the Marshals Service and seven officers from the Forest Service fanned out across the Sacramento area arresting those with outstanding misdemeanor warrants. Ten warrants were served successfully, with those individuals arrested taken before United States Magistrate Judge Dale A. Drozd yesterday afternoon. Another nine individuals voluntarily appeared before Judge Drozd yesterday in order to clear their warrants.

The cases involved violations ranging from maintaining illegal campfires, illegal removal of forest products, and trespassing in closed forest areas.

U.S. Attorney Wagner stated, "We appreciate the efforts of the Marshals' Office and Forest Service for taking the initiative to follow-up on misdemeanor violators who fail to appear in court. We hope this sends a message to those who refuse to take responsibility for their violations that they will be arrested."

Anyone with an outstanding federal arrest warrant should contact the United States Marshals Office.
