SACRAMENTO November 25, 2009 – Nevada County County Executive Officer Rick Haffey is one of four county officials to be honored with a credential from the CSAC Institute for Excellence in County Government.
The credentials were presented to the Institute's first graduating class during the 115th Annual Meeting of the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) held in Monterey County last week.
The Institute was founded by CSAC in 2008 to provide elected officials and senior county staff with professional education opportunities. Haffey is the first appointed county official to complete the coursework needed to earn an executive credential.
"The CSAC Institute is proud of the individuals who worked hard to earn their credential," said Institute Governing Council Chair John Gioia, a Contra Costa County Supervisor. "The training and education they have received will assist them in providing the necessary leadership, creativity and skills needed to be a county official in today's challenging environment."
The Institute offers both county supervisor and executive credentials; to obtain a credential, an individual must successfully complete 30 credits (approximately 60 hours of course work).
County officials can take individual courses or pursue a credential. In 2009, the Institute offered 29 courses and an additional 17 courses are being offered in the Winter/Spring term. Most courses are taught in conjunction with the University of Southern California and CSU Sacramento.
"We are excited about the future potential the Institute holds," Gioia said. "Nowhere else can California county officials receive this level of specific, targeted training and education."
