Nevada County High Schools H1N1 Vaccinations

By: Nevada County Public Health Department

November 18, 2009 - The Nevada County Public Health Department (NCPHD) is continuing the distribution of H1N1 vaccine into the community. Clinics for high school students (those in grades 9-12) will begin next week. Please see the schedule below. When more supplies arrive, additional clinics will be held to include expanding segments of the population. We expect our next shipment to arrive in mid to late December.

Because initial quantities of vaccine are extremely limited, NCPHD has been, and will continue to follow the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Vaccine will ONLY be offered to individuals in the specific priority groups who are known to have the highest risks when infected with H1N1 influenza and to be the highest transmitters of the virus. There are several mechanisms targeting the priority groups are being addressed ranging from these mass vaccination clinics to administration by private providers.

This clinic is ONLY for students in the 9th-12th grade who live in or go to school in Nevada County and custodial parents of children less than 6 months of age (who bring either the infant or a birth certificate). This clinic is NOT for children ages 6 months thru 8th grade who missed a previous clinic nor will any child, ages 6 months thru 9 years of age, receive their second dose of vaccine at this clinic. Additional clinics will be scheduled shortly to reach them. Individuals who do NOT fall into these categories will have to wait until additional supplies become available.

Please be prepared to show a valid ID if asked to demonstrate eligibility in this target group. Parents must be present with the student in order to sign the consent form. Students who are 18 years of age will need to show a valid high school ID card AND a valid driver’s license in order to sign their own consent form.

CLINIC SCHEDULE:

• This clinic includes students Truckee High School; Sierra High School; high school students that are home schooled; and charter school students in this age group.
