Placer County to Close Friday for Holiday, Monday to Cut Costs

By: Anita Yoder, Placer County Public Information Officer

July 2, 2009 - Placer County offices will be closed Friday, July 3 for the Independence Day holiday and Monday, July 6 as a cost-saving measure.

All county emergency response and 24-hour-a-day services will continue uninterrupted both days, including law enforcement and emergency support to individuals, such as child protective services.

Monday is one of 12 days county offices will be closed during the 2009-10 fiscal year while approximately 2,200 county employees take unpaid, mandatory time off. The furlough days apply to three groups of employees: management, confidential and those represented by the Placer Public Employees Organization.

The 12 furlough days will help the county balance its budget for 2009-10. The new fiscal year began today.

On Friday, Placer County Transit will follow its normal Saturday schedule. It will be closed on Saturday, July 4, but will offer normal service on Monday, July 6.

Placer Commuter Express, a weekday service that takes commuters to downtown Sacramento and back, will be on its regular schedules Friday and Monday.

Tahoe Area Regional Transit will follow its regular schedules Friday through Monday.

All branches of the Placer County Library will be closed from Friday through Monday.
