September 3, 2010 - You have probably heard or read about the advanced metering technology that PG&E is deploying for our customers throughout Nevada County. SmartMeters will allow PG&E to remotely activate new accounts and restore power much more quickly when outages occur. Also, by providing customers with hourly readings of their own usage, the technology will help them make more informed decisions about their own energy usage. Studies have shown that just letting people see their power consumption leads to them saving up to 12 percent.
Yesterday, an independent study commissioned by the CPUC confirmed that SmartMeters are accurate. However, it also determined that PG&E’s communication to customers during the initial rollout was less than effective. As a part of our efforts to improve customer awareness about what SmartMeter is and why we are deploying it in Nevada County, I want to inform you that we will be hosting a SmartMeter Answer Center at the PG&E Service Center located at 127 East Main Street in Grass Valley on:
Tuesday, September 7th, 9:00 am -12:00 pm
Wednesday, September 8th, 12-5pm
