August 20, 2010 - Join hundreds of Tahoe Basin residents and visitors as we help improve forest health at the League to Save Lake Tahoe's 13th annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day on Saturday, September 11th at North Tahoe Regional Park near Tahoe Vista. The League welcomes volunteers of all ages and abilities.
This year’s Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day will focus on fuels reduction, native vegetation rehabilitation, trail restoration, stream restoration, biomass clean-up, and educational outreach. The event will also include a volunteer appreciation lunch for all participants with a special guest speaker.
For over a decade, Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day has provided hundreds of local volunteers the opportunity to restore public lands and discover how forest ecosystem restoration can complement fire risk reduction. Volunteers band together under the leadership of the League to Save Lake Tahoe on one day with a unified goal; to reverse the degradation of Lake Tahoe. This successful community event is possible through collaborative efforts with public land management entities such as the U.S. Forest Service, California State Parks, and other conservation organizations in the Tahoe Basin. Previous Stewardship Day events have helped restore Meek’s Creek Meadow, Sylandia Park, Sugar Pine Point State Park, and the Angora Fire Area.
Since its founding 53 years ago, the League to Save Lake Tahoe has played a leading role in every aspect of protecting the Tahoe basin. We are a private non-profit membership organization, made up of thousands of individuals and families from around the United States and beyond. Our primary role is to serve as an independent voice for the public interest, including the interest of future generations.
All volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and long pants, and bring a water bottle and snack. Tools are provided, but, volunteers who already have work gloves, hardhats, rakes, hand-saws, and shovels are encouraged to bring them (no axes or chain-saws, please). For more information or to sign-up, contact Flavia Sordelet with the League to Save Lake Tahoe at (530) 541-5388 or events@keeptahoeblue.org. Registration is required.
