Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival "Sneak Peek" in Grass Valley on Dec. 6 Joint fundraiser for SYRCL and Center for the Arts Published on Nov 25, 2009 - 7:27:57 AM
NEVADA CITY, Calif. Nov. 25, 2009 - The Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival will screen at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley on Sunday, December 6th with a program of inspiring film and live entertainment, beginning with a dessert and wine reception at 6:00 pm.
Wild & Scenic is a production of the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), and the Grass Valley event is a joint fundraiser for SYRCL and the Center for the Arts, and will serve as a "sneak peak" for the Opening Festival in downtown Nevada City from January 15-17th, 2010.
"We're thrilled to be partnering with SYRCL to bring the Wild & Scenic Festival to The Center for the Arts -- the first screening in Grass Valley. The Center strives to bring a wide variety of programming in all arts disciplines to our community. We also understand how expensive a festival is to produce as our annual programming barely covers the costs of the programs themselves. This event will benefit both of these important community organizations," states Julie Baker, executive director of The Center for the Arts.
Local wines and desserts from California Organics will be served during a reception, followed by a live "recycled" fashion show by Troupe de Trash. The film program will feature favorites from the 2009 Wild & Scenic Festival season, including shorts such as Papiroflexia, Goldfish and Homegrown Revolution. Red Gold -- a film set in the salmon-rich waters of Bristol Bay Alaska -- will anchor a program that also includes trailers for films officially selected for the 2010 Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival. Tickets to this benefit are $35 and also include a commemorative SYRCL wine glass and entry into a drawing for a pair of passes to the January 2010 Wild & Scenic Festival. Copies of SYRCL's 8th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival program will also be available to attendees.
Tickets are available at BriarPatch and The Center For the Arts box office, as well as on-line at: www.thecenterforthearts.org.
Ticket purchases support local arts, as all proceeds from the December 6th event will be shared equally between The Center for the Arts and the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival.
"Many people assume Wild & Scenic is a big fundraiser for SYRCL and our work to protect and restore the Yuba," explains SYRCL executive director Jason Rainey. "In fact, the Festival is one of our most expensive-yet successful-community programs. Despite business sponsorships, public and private grants, a legion of dedicated volunteers and strong ticket sales, the event just covers its costs. The benefit at The Center will help SYRCL put on another spectacular show in January."
