NEVADA CITY, Calif. May 8, 2009 - Are you a forest landowner in Nevada County? Would you like to know more about forest management for your property? The University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) and Nevada County Resource Conservation District (NCRCD) are sponsoring a workshop on "Forest Stewardship in the Rural-Residential Interface" on Friday, June 12th from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
The workshop will cover the basic ecology of Sierra Nevada forests, forest management history, forest pests, effects of drought and fire, watersheds, and sources of financial and technical information for landowners. An afternoon field trip will demonstrate management practices that reduce fuels and promote forest health.
The workshop will be held at the USFS Conference Room, 631 Coyote St., in Nevada City. Refreshments and registration start at 8:30 am. The $15 cost includes informational materials and lunch. Since enrollment is limited to the first 30 people, early registration is encouraged. If you are unable to attend this workshop, similar workshops are scheduled for June 5th in Foresthill, June 19th in Alta and June 26th in Jenkinson Lake.
