Energy & Commerce Subcommittee to hold hearing on Anthem Blue Cross Premium Hike

WASHINGTON, DC Feb. 9, 2010 - Chairman Henry A. Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak today announced that the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, regarding reports that Anthem Blue Cross, a subsidiary of WellPoint, Inc., is increasing its premium rates by as much as 39% in the individual health insurance market in California.

Chairman Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Stupak sent a letter to Angela Braly, the President and CEO of WellPoint, requesting her testimony at the hearing as well as information and documentation from the company on its rate increases.
